极具险绝奇观的天门山盘山公路——“通天大道”则是天门山的另一壮景。通天大道态势险绝，荡气回肠，更以蜿蜒迂回穿行于山体绝壁之天险而“堪称天下第一公路奇观”。它全长10.77公里，从标志门直达天门洞脚下，海拔从200米急剧提升至1300米，共有九十九个弯，大道两侧绝壁千仞，空谷幽深，180度的急弯此消而彼长，层层叠起，中国书法协会常务副会长沈鹏先生走过通天大道后欣然为其题字“曲道通天”，字体遒劲挺拔，与通天大道的奇绝天下相融为一体。

被称为通天大道的天门山盘山公路，全长不到11公里，海拔却从200米急剧提升至1200多米，多达九十九弯，弯弯紧连，层层叠起，宛若飞龙盘旋，直通天际，使人惊奇震撼，堪称天下第一公路奇观。

通天大道共计九十九弯，扣合天有九宵之意。大道借山势扶摇直上，如巨龙翔起，似玉带斜挂，一百八十度急弯回峦盘绕，堪称天下第一公路奇观。经此通天大道，即可直达上天梯，壮观的天界气象近在眼前。
